XVII Havana Theatre Festival

The National Council for the Performing Arts, from the Cuban Ministry of Culture, announces the XVII Havana Theatre Festival, which will be taking place in Havana, Cuba from October 20th to 29th, 2017. Guided by José Martí´s words since the very first edition in 1980 –“In theatre, like in everything else, we can create in Cuba”-this Festival has become the ideal setting for theatrical exchanges.
Nowadays, with all the transformations taking place in our world which impact civilization, culture, and art, in theatre we observe that change and innovation come alongside this art’s ancestral resistance. The next Havana Theatre Festival will be a lively documentation of these interactions as well as a showcase for the various ways in which theatre dialogues in its social contexts. Herein lies its interest in highlighting links between theatre, society, and resistance.
Due to economic reasons, we are unable to finance international airfare or honorarium for attendees. However, we do offer preferred accommodation rates through Pasadiso, the Cuban Ministry of Culture’s tour operator. The organizers also offer promotional and logistical support to the selected plays.
With its original spirit of dialogue, encounter, and festivity, Havana will be hosting this crossroads formed by different artistic languages and theatrical trends that shape contemporary performing arts. Cuban audiences and theatre professionals, followers of every edition of HTF, await you to multiply those world imaginaries tied to powerful ideas, actions, and emotions delineated on stage.
The Havana Theatre Festival Office will be receiving proposals that fall within the main theme of “Theatre, Society, Resistance” from now until February 28th, 2017.

Proposal submissions
All proposal dossiers should be sent to the above physical address by regular mail with the note “XVII Havana Theatre Festival.” Links to websites are accepted as references but each dossier must contain the following:

- Attachment 3: Technical rider
- Attachment 4: Complete audiovisual recording of the proposal (DVD or flash drive)
